“We’ve put a school on 436b,” said The Sup. “We need teachers.”
I raised my hand.
“Newhart, you really think you can teach Shakespeare to a colony of Dwarlacks on the twilight side of a frozen planet?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Then pack your bags and catch the six-o’clock. You’re an American hero, Newhart.”
“Thank you, sir. One question, sir.”
“Yes?”
“The final test, sir. What is the protocol?”
“No test.”
“No test? How shall I assess progress?”
“How about you don’t let the little cretins eat you the first day?”
I saluted, “Sounds like a dream job, sir.” I said.
Ah, the US military educate the universe. Captain Kirk will be proud.

LOL Good one! I was thinking more of a Hoth theme, though.

You have to love that “can do” spirit of a teacher. I applaud all the educators that face a tribe of Hellions every single day.

The scariest story I have read today 🙂 Well done.

Ha.. I think that’s the spirit.. with the right Shakespeare quote he will not be eaten.

I like this, and I suspect when he says ‘don’t them eat you’ he might mean literally!

“don’t let them eat you” seems like a good lesson for any teacher, but in this case I fear a more literal interpretation. Love the teacher’s attitude; good stuff all round.

I hope the Dwarlacks aren’t like the Klingons and soon claim that Shakespeare was a Dwarlack. That was a fun read, great story.

Seems all kids have to have Shakespeare rammed down their throats.

Gotta love a job with lots of adventure and low expectations from above.

A school without tests and assessment definitely sounds like a dream job! I’m not sure I’d like to fend off hungry Dwarlack youngsters, though. Good story. 🙂

Dear Larry,
The don’t let them eat you line made me laugh out loud. Clever take on the prompt.

So the Dwarlacks are no different from any other bunch of high school kids – if your’e still standing you’re making progress. Do I sound like I’ve been there? Love the story.

Always a chance for learning if the teacher does not get eaten. Nicely done.
